Day In The Life Of A Director Of Infrastructure For An Ocean Farming Organization

My Day to Day

I lead up our efforts to develop the systems and processes that ocean farmers need to be successful. Some days I'll be out on the farm working on the boats. The ocean is unexpected, so boats break often. I spend a fair amount of time jumping in and troubleshooting issues that no one saw coming. I spend time with the team in the lab, understanding the biology of what we're doing. I also do a lot of partnership work. Finally, I work to synthesize our work and share it out for others to learn from.

Skills & Education

Here's the path I took:

  • High School

  • Bachelor's Degree

    History

    Reed College

  • Certification

    Workplace Democracy and Community Ownership

The City University of New York

Life & Career Milestones

I've taken a lot of twists and turns

  • 1.

I started my career as an administrative assistant for Congressman Bernie Sanders.

  • 2.

I then transitioned into corporate governance.

  • 3.

After gaining some experience, I co-founded a corporate governance consulting firm, where I worked for 14 years while simultaneously running my own contracting company.

  • 4.

I eventually decided that while I was living my best life, I could do more to contribute to humanity, so I pivoted to work in more social and community service-based spaces.

  • 5.

I thought I was doing my part for the planet by recycling and composting, but when my daughter came home from camp crying about the state of the climate, I realized the little things weren’t enough.

  • 6.

I started reading, researching, and learning about the people who were taking a systems-level approach to address the climate crisis, which led me into ocean farming.

  • 7.

I now work as the director of infrastructure for GreenWave, an organization that trains and supports regenerative ocean farmers in order to yield meaningful economic and climate impacts.
