Advice for getting started
I'm my biggest critic. I came from acute care, which gave me a completely different background, and transitioned into fire prevention. That shift was one of my biggest challenges. It was scary and I doubted myself. To help myself through it, I treated myself as I would one of my children—I encouraged myself to explore the newness and embrace the challenge.

My path in life has been direct

I started my career as a secretary for the San Bernardino County Fire Department, not knowing it would lead to my passion.
2.
My interest in fire prevention grew as I worked in the hazardous materials section and learned about community safety.
3.
Encouraged by the fire marshal, I began taking fire technology classes and volunteering to gain experience.
4.
I transitioned to the community safety division, working as a front counter tech and becoming familiar with the California Fire Code.
5.
I found my passion in public education, teaching fire prevention and safety tips to the community.
6.
I faced the challenge of switching careers from acute care to fire prevention, overcoming self-doubt and learning a new field.
7.
I now serve as a fire prevention officer, where I enjoy the variety in my job, from school inspections to damage assessments after natural disasters.
8.
My ultimate goal is to become a fire marshal, continuing my education and aiming high in my career path.
