Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
You should stay near family and where you already have a network of friends.
How I responded:
The opportunity to try something completely new and different at this stage of your life is exciting and should be embraced fully! I was nervous about moving to a part of the US I had never even visited and being away from my family, high school friends, college friends, and the home I had made in Atlanta. Others perpetuated this fear but I ignored everyone else's opinion and really evaluated where I wanted to be. You have minimal commitments at this point of your life, so do what YOU want!
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
The shock of going to college was big. I didn't know how to choose a major, how to get an internship, or what classes to take. My sorority was the support system that got me through the unknown waters that my family didn't have insight into.
