I learned that I loved having a mixture of the 2, through my co-ops/internships during college.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Society in general:

You are African American and a woman, you have everything against you so you will have to work extra hard.

  • How I responded:

I took that discouragement and turned it into empowerment. I was determined to prove naysayers wrong through my actions. I knew that anything I decided to put my mind to I was capable of achieving, so I was determined to not live within that stigma.

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • Drexel was very expensive for me to attend (only one parent was working, I had to move away from home, etc.). I was determined to start at Drexel and finish at Drexel, so I had to find creative ways to finish my degree. I constantly applied for financial aid re-evaluations, scholarships, and grants. I also worked a work-study job, and worked at an ice-cream shop during weekends. I was able to save enough money to afford my living expenses and tuition.
