My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
I went to school at the University of Michigan and actually majored in English Literature.
2.
I took a job at the university's computer center and realized that was the field I wanted to enter.
3.
The first Microsoft certification I had to get was made up of seven tests; that was pretty daunting.
4.
Ultimately, getting a few of those certifications under my belt gave me a ton of confidence.
5.
I also had the opportunity to get into IT management and lead an international team.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Teachers:
You'll never make it as a musician.
How I responded:
In high school, I was interested in pursuing music as a career, but one of my counselors was extremely discouraging. Honestly, it probably worked out for the better, but at the time, I couldn't believe how disheartening that was to hear from an adult. Luckily, I had a hardworking father who was a great role model and always helped me get past the noise. And I didn't let those discouraging words completely turn me off from music; I still took music classes in college and kept up that interest.
