Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Peers:

Why would you want a PhD...you don't need it!

  • How I responded:

I helped them understand how a PhD in nursing with a focus of education will help me in my current role by sharing the link between nursing theory, research design, and data analysis. I shared how my research would promote social change for nursing students and improve the transition to practice of those hired to our region.

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • I am the sole provider for my family of four. My husband was diagnosed with cancer seven years ago and has been unable to work. To complete my studies, I continued to work a full time job and on occasion a part time role to meet our needs.
