I've taken a lot of twists and turns
1.
I grew up on a farm in Charlottesville, Virginia—my father was a famous surgeon and burn specialist who taught me a lot about skin rejuvenation and wound repair.
2.
I attended Old Dominion University (ODU) where I received my degree in counseling psychology; worked multiple jobs in order to pay my way through.
3.
My first job out of college was with the American Heart Association—around this time, my father was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which led to my family suffering some financial difficulties.
4.
In order to help my family through this, I studied to become a stockbroker and discovered that I loved helping people achieve financial security.
5.
I got tired of the weather in Virginia, so I moved to Los Angeles and worked as a broker and venture capitalist investing in businesses.
6.
I found out one of the founders of a diet company I had invested in was embezzling money, so in order to protect my investment, I bought out the company and decided to run it myself.
7.
Recruited my sister to help run the company with me—we later started another company, Radical Skincare, where we formulate powerful anti-aging products for all skin types.
8.
My sister and I have also written a book, Get Radical: Secrets to Creating a Life You Love, and are in the process of launching a new company that’s like the Uber or Airbnb of skincare.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Myself:
You can't achieve that. You don't have the money or the time. You're just crazy.
How I responded:
I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to being negative. I have to constantly monitor my thoughts and work on changing my mind. Whenever those thoughts try to take over, I put myself back in the drivers seat. And, I only surround myself by people who lift me up, so those thoughts are lessened by positivity.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
My father was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
Growing up I never had a lot of money, so I had to work odd jobs to buy myself a car and to pay for college. Later in life, I found out a business colleague was embezzling money from a business I invested in, putting my financial well-being at risk.
