My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
First time in college & feeling unsure if I will be successful.
2.
Feeling like I could conquer the world because my friends thought they could too.
3.
Got pregnant a few years after I graduated & became a single mom.
4.
I was able to make it on my own because I had a degree to secure a decent job with good pay to sustain our quality of living.
5.
Decided to go back to graduate school to make more money. My last semester I got married.
6.
Became a counselor and began making 30,000 more because of my MA degree.
7.
Went back to school to pursue a PhD and my 2nd year , my dad died and that rocked my world terribly.
8.
I felt like quitting but i reminded myself that i was not a quitter, I was more than a conquerer. With family, friends and church support I finished!
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
How can you be sure you are going to get a job when you finish is one of the most consistent negative question I recieved from people I knew..
How I responded:
If you never try, you'll never know if you would succeed. Setting goals are the main motivator that helps you stay focused. Your goal is your target you are trying to hit. Visualize your goal and visualize yourself achieving it! Now how does it feel. Once you achieve your goal, it will boost your confidence to aim for more and you will feel like there is nothing you can't do. Real life will happen without your permission, but how you respond to it will determine your success.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
Just because you are the first to go to college isn't an excuse, it's an asset. You are the family pioneer. You get to prove you and those behind you can beat the odds and can open the door for others. Be resourceful and intentional. Take advantage!
