Life & Career Milestones

My path in life has been direct

  • 1.

When I was a little kid, I wanted to build cars.

  • 2.

While visiting India, I noticed the country had a problem with rolling blackouts I wasn’t used to in the US, and it got me more interested in engineering and infrastructure.

  • 3.

When I visited the villages over there, I noticed that people were far sicker than most people over here too.

  • 4.

I came to the University of California, Irvine (UCI) thinking I was going to go into oil and gas, so I started out studying chemical engineering.

  • 5.

As I took more classes, I realized I wanted to help people on a greater scale.

  • 6.

I wound up switching to a focus on electricity, particularly its impact on medical devices and pharmaceuticals.

  • 7.

I love working in biotech because it allows me to use all my interests and skills to help as many people as I can.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Myself:

I should spend my time job hunting instead of doing research. Maybe this isn’t the right path for me.

  • How I responded:

In college, a failed an easy class which set me back a year. I then continued to get rejections on my research grant proposals which was really discouraging and, at the time, felt like a waste of time. Time I could have spent looking for a different job. It all came down to going through the motions, networking, and following through.
