Life & Career Milestones

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

In undergrad, I was 90% certain I would go into tax at KPMG after getting my master's from the University of Texas.

  • 2.

Attending Vanderbilt University for my MAcc degree was one of the most unexpected, yet fulfilling opportunities I've had.

  • 3.

While I was in grad school, I planned to go to Dallas to work in Valuation at KPMG.

  • 4.

Dallas wasn't quite the right fit for a small-town, South Dakota girl. I accepted a position in Audit with KPMG in Nashville.

  • 5.

In May 2018, I graduated from Vanderbilt University and one month later won the title of Miss South Dakota, something I'd been dreaming of and working towards for over 10 years.

  • 6.

For one year, I travelled across South Dakota promoting financial literacy through a children's book I wrote called Mr. Money Sheep.

  • 7.

In September of 2019, I started as an Audit Associate with KPMG in Nashville, TN—quite the pivot from tax, Dallas, and a year living my dream. I haven't looked back since!

  • 8.

The journey is the best part.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Society in general:

I am fortunate to have been largely support by friends and family in my career endeavors; however, accounting/auditing is often stereotyped as being purpose-less.

  • How I responded:

EVERY job has a unique purpose. If you woke up today, your purpose has already been predestined. The challenge can sometimes be learning to identify and highlight the meaning of tedious day-to-day tasks. I really like connecting with people. So, even though accounting is not a career that is known for its interpersonal aspects, I have worked hard to engage with clients, my team, and organizations within my company and community that reinforce the meaning and purpose of my career.
