Life & Career Milestones
I've taken a lot of twists and turns
1.
Immigrated to USA—did not speak the language, did not know anything about this country, its values, or laws.
2.
Year later, decided to enroll in college. First major—Criminal Justice—did not graduate. Changed major.
3.
Second major—Geology. Needed four classes to graduate. Got divorced—had to quit school altogether to provide for my children.
4.
Moved to South Carolina—got a job at ECPI University. Watched hundreds of people graduate. Shared their happiness, sadness, and joys.
5.
When Covid hit, the uncertainty and instability with job force made me realize that I need to get a degree to ensure I would not be unemployed.
6.
In 23 months, I graduated with a BS in Cybersecurity. Never been more proud of myself and my accomplishments.
7.
Month after graduation, landed my first career job as an Information Technology Specialist. Perfect job for someone with limited experience. Gaining knowledge and new skills every day.
8.
I love learning and this field is a never-ending learning experience. Currently working on obtaining my first certification and will continue to learn.

Why are you back in college? You had your chance once before and you ended up dropping out. Why will this time be different? You are way too old to start a career change now.
How I responded:
Make a decision, set your goals, and celebrate small successes and achievements. Never settle for less and do not give up on yourself and your dreams. It is not too late and you are not too old or anything else to become and learn what interests you and what you love. When you come to obstacles, ask for help, reach out to others. We all share a lot of same struggles and pains. The ones before us helped us and the ones coming after us, we got you. We are here to help and guide you.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
When I first immigrated to the U.S., I did not speak English. I did not know how to use any technology. I learned most by watching others around me. I learned by trying. Every mispronounced word I got laughed at for is now my favorite word to say.
