Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Myself:
I was particularly lucky to have parents who did not push me in a specific direction, but simply wanted me to be happy and fulfilled, no matter what career I selected. I wish I could say the same of all my students; I see many of them pressured.
How I responded:
There are 2700 colleges and universities in the nation. "You" can get into 2550 of them; it's the last 150 that are extremely difficult. So, IF (and for some of us that is a BIG if) college is right for you, you can bet that rather than feeling forced to apply to one of the 150 elite colleges or universities, you can always apply to one of the 2550 colleges that fits YOUR specific needs. Because you MUST follow your passion in order to live a fulfilling life...this ain't no dress rehearsal!
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
Many of my students in Florida felt they had to depend on athletic scholarships, however, the $600 million in athletic scholarships is outweighed by the $4 billion in academic scholarships. Apply for academic grants and scholarships.
